Finally! Over 5 months after my pre-order, and over 2 months after the promised "July" delivery, my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera is on its way from Adorama! UPS tracking says it will be here on Thursday, October 3rd.
It has certainly been interesting to watch new videos going up every day in the Pocket Cinema Camera group over on Vimeo, while my new Adata 45MB/s write SD card
, extra batteries
, 11-22mm lens
and other accessories sit by the door gathering dust.
That said, the delay will be worth it if it gave Blackmagic time to calibrate the sensor.
Coincidentally, I recently saw this interesting tutorial from Duy Linh Tu, an Assistant Professor at the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, on how to use the Canon EOS M
with the EOS M to EF Adapter
for interviews:
Very practical setup, in my view. Assuming the same arrangement would work for the Pocket, I just ordered a Kamerar 20cm shoe extension
(for a few dollars less than the cost of the Rycote shoe extension suggested in the video).
Combined with my $25 cold shoe from Wooden Camera, this should enable me to mount the Tascam DR-40
, CoolLCD Top Handle and AT835b shotgun mic
on top of the camera without too much crowding (and without paying $99 for a Wooden Camera Pocket Cage
).
Really looking forward to Thursday.
